Tax Planning Session

Model the decision before it shows up on next year's return.

$400 flat. One hour of analysis. Written deliverable.

A preparer completes the return in front of them. An adviser asks what decisions you're making this year that will show up next April — and gives you a tax-aware answer before you make them. The Planning Session is that conversation, scoped, paid, and delivered in writing so you can act on it.

When the planning session is the right fit

  • You're considering a Roth conversion this year and want a multi-year tax projection
  • You have ISO/NSO exercises pending and need an AMT projection before pulling the trigger
  • You're moving between states and want apportionment + safe-harbor strategy
  • You're selling a business or rental property and need entity / Sec. 1031 / installment-sale modeling
  • You're going from W-2 to self-employed (or vice versa) and want quarterly estimate + entity guidance
  • You're approaching a major liquidity event (RSU vesting, IPO, secondary sale) and want pre-event positioning
  • You inherited assets and need a basis-step-up + distribution strategy

What's in the deliverable

  • Multi-year projection model — current year through year-3 with scenario columns
  • Scenario analysis — up to 3 alternatives modeled side-by-side (e.g., Convert in 2026 vs 2027 vs split)
  • Year-end action list — what to do, what to defer, what to document, with deadlines
  • Estimated-tax recommendation — if your withholding or quarterly estimates need to change to hit safe-harbor
  • Written narrative — PDF deliverable in your secure portal, plus a 30-minute review call to walk through it

What you bring to the engagement

  • Last 1–2 years' tax returns (PDFs are fine)
  • Current year YTD pay stub, equity-comp grant docs, K-1s if applicable
  • The decision you're trying to make — the planning session is highest-leverage when scoped to a specific question

How it relates to tax preparation

The Planning Session is standalone — it's not bundled with a tax-prep engagement, and it doesn't require you to file with us. It's an independent strategy product. If you go on to engage us for the actual return preparation later, the Planning Session work informs the return but is not double-counted.

If you prefer ongoing planning rather than a one-off, ask about the quarterly check-in package — four 15-minute syncs across 12 months to keep the strategy current as facts change.
